Pompadour, city of horses, with its hippodrome, the National Stud and the Domaine de Chignac.

Pompadour has become synonymous with the favourite concubine of Louis the XVTh, but it is better known in France as being the national "City of the Horse," home of the National Stud and a race track - a centre of competition and selection. Nearby, the Domaine de Chignac houses the national foal nursery.

These sites work together, naturally, and share certain skills and traditions, including, farriers, saddlers, bridle makers and so on.

With 160 days of horse shows and competitions every year, eleven flat race and jump meetings, Pompadour is heaven for horse lovers, both professional and amateur.
